The Client

The Central Conference of American Rabbis (CCAR), founded in 1889, is the oldest and largest rabbinic organization in North America. It projects a powerful voice in the religious life of the American and international Jewish communities.  The CCAR’s unique contribution to a continued vibrant Jewish community and Reform Movement lies in its work fostering excellence in Reform Rabbis; enhancing unity and connectedness among Reform Jews; applying Jewish values to a contemporary life; and, creating a compelling and accessible Judaism for today and the future.

The Project

After the tragic death of a child of two rabbis, the community set up a fundraiser through the St. Baldricks Foundation. The CCAR decided to help with the project and to hold the “shave” at their 125th annual convention. As the head of marketing and communications for the convention, I worked with the team of rabbis organizing the shave and an outside PR firm to ensure we got maximum media exposure.

The Result

 #36Rabbis Shave for the Brave garnered national attention and blew past their goal of raising $180,000. To date they’ve raised over $1 million. 

 

It was covered by ABC7, NBC, Chicago Tribune, Boston Globe, HuffPo, Daily Beast, and in dozens of blogs. The project was the topic of talks at TEDx Lehigh River and TEDx ACU.
