The Client

Couchsurfing is a global community of 7 million people in more than 100,000 cities who share their life, their world, their journey. Couchsurfing connects travelers with a global network of people willing to share in profound and meaningful ways, making travel a truly social experience.

The Project

I organized New York’s annual CouchSurfing festival for two years. I personally reached out to local business owners, tour guides, bloggers, and active members, partnering with them to organize events. In addition to main events, we organized small dinners in people’s homes and home stays. We created a logo and brand for the event each year, with associated merchandise for sale.  I managed the schedule, oversaw all committees, managed project teams, and acted as media spokesperson.  Prior to becoming the lead organizer, I managed publicity for two years, including maintaining social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and Tumblr, and creating event websites.

The Results

Under my tenure, CouchCrash New York went from a weekend music festival to  ten days of concerts, meals, tours, presentations, and home stays.  The festival was attended by over 500 members from around the world each year. Main events saw attendances of over 300 people. Each year over 75 local members volunteered and hundreds hosted visitors.
